Product FAQs

Q: What mushrooms can I grow with this sterile milo grain spawn?
A: This grain spawn is ideal for a wide range of gourmet and medicinal mushrooms, including Lion’s Mane, Oyster, Shiitake, Turkey Tail, and Reishi. Milo’s small grain size and nutrient profile make it especially effective for fast colonization and healthy fruiting across these species.

Q: How much liquid culture should I use to inoculate each bag?
A: For best results, inject 10-20 cc of liquid culture per bag directly into the self-healing injection port. Avoid exceeding this amount, as too much moisture can lead to anaerobic conditions and increase the risk of contamination.

Q: How long will it take for mycelium to fully colonize the bag?
A: Colonization generally takes between 2 to 4 weeks depending on the mushroom species, environmental conditions, and the strength of your liquid culture. Ensure a stable environment around 70–75°F for optimal growth.

Q: What’s the best way to store the bag before I use it?
A: Store your bag in a cool, dry place between 35–46°F, such as a refrigerator. Keep it sealed until you’re ready to inoculate to maintain sterility. Do not freeze, as freezing may damage the grain structure.

Q: What should I do if the bag shows signs of contamination?
A: If you observe unusual colors (green, black, or pink), foul odors, or slimy textures, discard the bag immediately. These are signs of bacterial or mold contamination. To reduce the risk, always inoculate using sterile tools and in a clean workspace.
