Q: What should I do to maintain the substrate's sterility?

A: Always handle the substrate with clean equipment and in a clean space. If inoculated with liquid culture, ensure your workspace is as sterile as possible to prevent contamination.

Q: How much grain spawn should I use to mix with my substrate bag?

A: As a general guideline, we recommend a 1:2 ratio of fully colonized grain spawn to substrate for dung-loving mushrooms. For example, if you use 6 lbs of substrate, you should ideally mix in 3 lbs of grain spawn to achieve optimal results.

Using a sterile syringe, inject your favorite mushroom liquid culture into a grain bag. Allow the grain to fully colonize in a clean environment. For best results, we recommend using 1 lb of colonized grain spawn for every 2 lbs of CVG substrate.
